Ronald McDonald House Charities and WestJet Surprise a Coach Dad for Father’s Day!

In honour of Father’s Day and to celebrate Coach Dads, RMHC and WestJet teamed up to surprise one hockey-loving family with an early Father’s Day gift; a special reunion and time together with those who mean the most.
With more than 70 per cent of Canadians living outside of a city with a children’s hospital, when a child becomes sick, families often travel hundreds of kilometers to get the treatment and care their child needs. This new video puts the spotlight on one of these families: Troy Hunt (Coach Dad) and his family from Clarenville, Newfoundland

Keeping Families Close – No Matter the Distance
Imagine being separated from your 10-year-old daughter and your extended hockey family for more than two months while you devote yourself to caring for your 13-year-old son as he undergoes treatment for leukemia. This is Troy Hunt’s reality.

Last week, our wonderful partners at WestJet, surprised Troy and his son, 13-year-old Darian, by bringing together those who the mean the most to them. While the planning and preparation took weeks, a number of surprises happened quickly last week – starting in the dressing room of their hometown pee wee hockey team, the Clarenville Caribous.

The end result? See for yourself – watch what staying close means to the Hunt family, and watch the magic unfold
