Ainslie's 1st birthday

When Ainslie was born 7.5 weeks early we were terrified at what a NICU stay might look like; our biggest fear was that we would be separated from our newborn. The Ronald McDonald House and family room at Surrey Memorial Hospital was such a saving grace for us, enabling both of us to sleep overnight in the NICU each and every night during Ainslie's stay. The comfort of the Ronald McDonald family room provided us with: home-cooked food from volunteers; a place to store our own groceries and to host family when they came to lend a hand; help with laundry; massages from volunteers to abate the aches and pains of sleeping in hospital chairs; gently used preemie clothing and supplies; and a safe space to work quietly while baby slept as well as to connect with other families in a similar position. We are so grateful for the existence of the family room, as well as for the volunteers who make the program run so well.
